430
Application
Ferritic stainless steel 430 stands out for its excellent ductility when subject to heat treatments. This material is used in the welding of similar base metals, welding overlays, and thermal spraying. It is predominantly used for overlays on sealing surfaces of valves for gas, water, and steam, creating wear-resistant stainless steel coatings. During welding, it is essential to perform preheating and post-weld heat treatment to achieve the best mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. The composition is expertly balanced to provide sufficient chromium content to ensure adequate corrosion resistance in common applications while maintaining optimal ductility under heat treatment conditions. Niobium and/or titanium-stabilized variants are available, specifically developed for the automotive industry and used in the manufacture of exhaust systems. In these cases, preheating and post-weld heat treatment are also required.

Welding & PWHT
This ferritic stainless steel is superior in mechanical performance with adequate carburization resistance. It is extensively used in welding to obtain overlays resistant to thermal and mechanical stress. Preheating and postweld thermal treatment are recommended for optimal welding results.
