430

Description

Ferritic solid wire for 17%Cr stainless steels
This wire rod deposits a ferritic stainless steel with good ductility in heat treated condition. Application include welding of similar parental metal, weld overlay and thermal spraying. Welding with this filler metal usually requires preheating and post weld heat treatment. Optimum mechanical properties and corrosion resistance are obtained only when the weldment is heat treated following the welding operation.

Description

Application

Ferritic stainless steel 430 stands out for its excellent ductility when subject to heat treatments. This material is used in the welding of similar base metals, welding overlays, and thermal spraying. It is predominantly used for overlays on sealing surfaces of valves for gas, water, and steam, creating wear-resistant stainless steel coatings. During welding, it is essential to perform preheating and post-weld heat treatment to achieve the best mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. The composition is expertly balanced to provide sufficient chromium content to ensure adequate corrosion resistance in common applications while maintaining optimal ductility under heat treatment conditions. Niobium and/or titanium-stabilized variants are available, specifically developed for the automotive industry and used in the manufacture of exhaust systems. In these cases, preheating and post-weld heat treatment are also required.
