Description

Basic coated electrode
This electrode is suitable for assembling and hardfacing of 15-17% Cr AISI 430 steels. Particularly suitable for refilling carbon steels subject to corrosion and abrasion. During application preheating and interpass: 150 – 260°C. Recommend heat treatment after welding (760–790°C/2h) with slow cooling (55°C/h max) until 595°C in an oven then in air at room temperature. Its basic coating ensures excellent positional welding characteristics with good gap bridging ability.

Description

Application

Ferritic stainless steel 430 stands out for its excellent ductility when subject to heat treatments. This material is used in the welding of similar base metals, welding overlays, and thermal spraying. It is predominantly used for overlays on sealing surfaces of valves for gas, water, and steam, creating wear-resistant stainless steel coatings. During welding, it is essential to perform preheating and post-weld heat treatment to achieve the best mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. The composition is expertly balanced to provide sufficient chromium content to ensure adequate corrosion resistance in common applications while maintaining optimal ductility under heat treatment conditions. Niobium and/or titanium-stabilized variants are available, specifically developed for the automotive industry and used in the manufacture of exhaust systems. In these cases, preheating and post-weld heat treatment are also required.
