Thermal Spray and PTA
GENERAL FEATURES
DAIKO develops and supplies high-quality metal powders, specifically formulated for the main surface overlay processes. Thanks to their controlled composition and calibrated particle size, these powders provide coatings with high wear, corrosion, erosion, and high-temperature resistance, even under the most critical operating conditions. Available processes:
Spray
A simple and fast deposition method that involves mechanically projecting the powder onto the surface. It produces mechanically bonded coatings, with reduced thickness and relatively high porosity. Suitable for low-cost applications or temporary coatings where resistance is not critical.
Spray & Fuse
Combines spraying with subsequent fusion using an oxy-acetylene flame. This makes the coating metallurgically bonded to the substrate, with a more compact microstructure, higher adhesion, and improved wear and corrosion resistance compared to simple spraying. It is an intermediate process between economical solutions and high-performance technologies.
PTA (Plasma Transferred Arc)
Transferred arc process with powders fed into the plasma. Produces high-density coatings, metallurgically bonded, with low dilution. Allows precise control of deposit composition, reducing the heat-affected zone and ensuring superior mechanical properties. Ideal for thick coatings (even several millimeters) with long service life, particularly in harsh environments subject to abrasive wear or aggressive corrosion.
Laser Cladding
Uses a concentrated laser beam to melt the powder directly on the substrate. The process enables extremely precise, thin, and very low dilution coatings, with a minimal heat-affected zone and minimal distortion. The microstructure is fine and homogeneous, with excellent adhesion. It is the reference technology for highly complex components, dimensional restorations, and applications where precision is critical.
HVOF (High Velocity Oxygen Fuel)
Advanced Thermal Spray technique in which particles are accelerated to supersonic speeds and deposited onto the substrate. Produces very dense coatings, with minimal porosity, exceptional hardness, and high wear, corrosion, and high-temperature oxidation resistance. HVOF coatings are particularly suitable for turbines, compressors, pumps, valves, and components exposed to extreme operating conditions.
OX/AC (Oxy-Acetylene Torch)
Traditional process in which the powder is melted and deposited using an oxy-acetylene torch. A versatile and well-established technology, suitable for field repairs, low-cost maintenance, and less demanding applications on steels, cast irons, and non-ferrous alloys.
