Description

Rutile coated electrode for 316L Mo bearing austenitic stainless steels
High current carrying capacity, minimum spatter formation and virtually self-cleaning slag produce a concave bead with minimal ripple as well as a smooth and clean weld profile. These electrodes are used for Mo bearing austenitic stainless steels with 1.5 ÷ 3 Mo. 316 steels are used for their good resistance to pitting, many acids and general corrosion. The presence of molybdenum provides creep resistance at elevated temperatures and pitting resistance in a halide atmosphere. Excellent weldability with a spatter free arc, self-releasing slag producing a very smooth bead appearance.

Description

Application

These consumables are specifically designed for austenitic stainless steels containing molybdenum (Mo) at a concentration between 1.5% and 3%. They are also compatible with titanium (Ti) or niobium (Nb) stabilized variants, which include nitrogen within the same alloys. 316/316L type steels are highly valued for their excellent resistance to pitting, many acids, and general corrosion. However, the described 316L consumables are not suitable for use in structural applications at high temperatures with 316/316H steels. For cryogenic applications down to -196 °C, please refer to the specific 316LCF datasheet. No preheating is needed; the maximum interpass temperature is 250 °C, and post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) is not required.

Alloy Type

316L Mo bearing austenitic stainless.

Microstructure

Austenite with a controlled level of ferrite, normally in the range 2-10FN depending on the application.

Welding & PWHT

These consumables ensure optimal performance in welding operations by eliminating the need for preheating, while maintaining a strict interpass temperature control at a maximum of 250°C. The absence of a requisite post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) further simplifies the process and enhances efficiency, making them an indispensable choice for welding austenitic stainless steels in challenging environments.
