Description

Aluminum-Nickel alloyed copper solid wire
Wire rod for copper alloys welding, especially for copper aluminum and copper aluminum nickel alloys. Suitable also for welding of steel and cast iron, porosity free. Pre-heating is recommended when working with large pieces. Suitable for metal-spraying in wear-resistance surface treatment and for welding galvanized steel sheet. Used in shipbuilding industry for pumps, propellers and valves when a high sea water corrosion resistance is required as well as in automotive industry in galvanized sheet welding and in construction industry where high mechanical properties are required.

Description

Application

This subfamily is aimed at the deposition of bronze with aluminum and nickel, particularly suitable for the welding of base materials, both wrought and cast, with a similar composition. Alloys of this type offer high resistance to stress corrosion, erosion caused by cavitation, fatigue due to corrosion, and attacks from acids and chlorides. These properties make them ideal for applications such as pumps that need to withstand corrosion and sparking, navigation propellers, and heat exchangers used in offshore, maritime, and mining environments. Regarding aluminum bronze alloys, no preheating is required, and the maximum interpass temperature should be limited to 150 °C. It should be noted that the resistance to hot cracking, in thick sections and under high constraints, is lower compared to unalloyed aluminum bronze. A valid alternative consists in filling with aluminum bronze and CuAl for increased ductility, with a final finish in CuAlNi.

Alloy Type

Cu-9%Al-5%Ni bronze for welding similar nickel aluminum bronze alloys.

Microstructure

In the as-welded condition consists of a duplex α + β microstructure.

Materials

Joining aluminum bronze. Weld overlay on steels.
