DAIKOWS 316LCF

SAW
  • AUSTENITIC STAINLESS STEELS
316LCF

Description

Controlled ferrite solid wire for cryogenic applications
The presence of molybdenum provides creep resistance at elevated temperatures and pitting resistance in a halide atmosphere. This alloy has a low carbon content which makes it particularly recommended where there is a risk of intergranular corrosion. These consumables are used for Mo bearing austenitic stainless steels with 1.5 ÷ 3 Mo. 316 steels are used for their good resistance to pitting, many acids and general corrosion. Controlled weld metal ferrite content (3 ÷8 FN) allow to achieve good cryogenic toughness and lateral expansion down to –196°C.

Description

Application

These welding consumables are employed for Mo-bearing austenitic stainless steels containing 1.5-3% Mo, notably used with Type 316/316L steels known for their robust resistance to pitting, various acids, and general corrosion. Specifically designed as controlled ferrite shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) electrodes and flux-cored wires, these consumables are tailored for applications in cryogenic service. Common uses include pipework and vessels subjected to cryogenic conditions, such as LNG facilities. It's important to note their inappropriateness for elevated temperature structural applications involving 316/316H. Operating guidelines dictate no preheating requirement, a recommended maximum interpass temperature of 250°C (with 300°C potentially acceptable for thicker sections), and no post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) necessity. To optimize impact properties, it is advised to apply heat inputs at the higher end of the allowable ranges during the welding process.

Alloy Type

Controlled ferrite 316L austenitic stainless steels for joining 316L base materials used in cryogenic applications.

Microstructure

Austenite with a controlled level of ferrite, 2-5FN (3-8FN for solid wires).
