  • FERRITIC - MARTENSITIC STAINLESS STEEL
4122

Description

Rutile cored wire for martensitic stainless steels
Flux cored wire resistant to specific hot oxidation for coatings on steel mill rollers and on valves and components for oil and gas. Hard martensitic stainless steel deposit for wear resistance surfacing and for high-grade buildups on non-and low alloyed base steels and tool steels. The deposit has a high wear resistance also at elevated temperatures as well as a good resistance against water, steam and diluted organic acids and is scale resistant up to 900° C. The wire shows good wetting behaviour and a finely rippled surface pattern.

Description

Application

Exhibiting impressive wear resistance, even at elevated temperatures, the martensitic welding deposit offers excellent durability against water, steam, and diluted organic acids. Maintaining scale resistance up to 900°C, it is well-suited for premium buildups and weld overlays on non- and low-alloyed base steels, as well as tool steels. Applications range from sealing faces on fittings, plungers, and claddings on rotors to continuous caster rolls and molds in ceramic industries. Selected based on carbon content, martensitic stainless steels find utility for their corrosion resistance and high strength in diverse applications like pumps, valves, and boat shafts. They are also valued for their wear resistance in cutlery, medical tools (scalpels, razors, and internal clamps), ball bearings, razor blades, injection molds for polymers, and brake disks for bicycles and motorbikes. To achieve a metallic bright finish, maintaining a clean welding area is essential. Preheating temperature ranges from 150 to 400°C, depending on the workpiece size and base material. Slow cooling and, if necessary, tempering should be applied.

Alloy Type

Martensitic steel for wear and corrosion resistant hardfacings.

Microstructure

The microstructure comprises tempered martensite and some carbide.

Materials

Surfacing can be performed on all weldable base materials, unalloyed and low-alloyed. Welding of corrosion resistant chromium steels as well as other similar-alloyed steels with C-contents up to 0.20% (repair welding).
