Description

Nickel rod, 29% Cr, 9% Fe, 0.75% Nb for alloy 690
Designed for welding alloy 690, this rod is an alternative to alloy 600 in applications subjected to high-temperature corrosion. The formulation is enriched with boron and zirconium, elements that help significantly reduce liquation cracking and oxide inclusions. It is particularly suitable for use in the nuclear industry, where the high chromium content provides superior resistance to stress corrosion in high-temperature aqueous environments. Also suitable for cladding operations on carbon and alloy steels, as well as for applications requiring high resistance to oxidizing agents.

Description

Application

The consumables are specifically designed to optimize interaction with alloy 690, which is increasingly preferred over alloy 600 for applications requiring superior high-temperature corrosion resistance. This choice is particularly relevant in the nuclear sector, where the high chromium content of alloy 690 ensures excellent corrosion resistance in oxidizing and sulfurizing atmospheres. These consumables, in addition to guaranteeing high-quality joints between base materials, are effectively employed in cladding applications on C-Mn steels and low-alloy steels. The main applications include
nuclear engineering and the production of equipment for handling sulfuric, nitric, and hydrofluoric acids. In most cases, neither preheating nor post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) is required.

Alloy Type

Ni-30%Cr-10%Fe alloy commonly known as alloy 690.

Microstructure

High alloy nickel base austenite.
