22H

Description

Covered electrode for type 22H and similar high carbon cast alloys
These electrodes are designed to match similar high carbon cast alloys type 22H. Excellent hot strength and oxidation resistance at typical service temperatures of 950-1250°C..Applications include highly stressed furnace parts, sintering and calcining muffles, cement kiln components resistant to hot abrasion, radiant tubes and pyrolysis coils. High current carrying capacity, minimum spatter formation and virtually self-cleaning slag produce a concave bead with minimal ripple as well as a smooth and clean weld profile.

22H
Description

Application

This electrode is designed for welding castings with a composition similar to that of the Abex Supertherm alloy, related to the cobalt-free DURALOY 22H alloy. The alloy matrix, characterized by a high carbon content, ensures excellent thermal and oxidation resistance in a temperature range between 950 and 1250 °C. The presence of cobalt and tungsten is crucial to maintain the matrix resistance beyond 1150 °C, even with the progressive dissolution of carbides. The high nickel content provides good carburization resistance, while the high chromium content offers effective protection against sulfidation in oxidizing conditions. Typical applications include components subjected to high stress, such as furnace parts, molds for sintering and calcination, cement kiln elements exposed to hot abrasion, radiant tubes, and pyrolysis coils. Given the low ductility of the alloy, associated with high mechanical strength values and residual stresses in multi-pass welds, preheating is recommended. For sections of considerable thickness, a preheat of 300 °C or higher is advised.

Alloy Type

0.5%C-25÷28%Cr-35÷50%Ni-0÷15%Co-5%W cast alloy for elevated temperature service.

Microstructure

The as-welded microstructure consists of high alloy austenite with primary eutectic and secondary carbides.
