Description

Copper rod alloyed with nickel-aluminum
This rod is particularly suitable for corrosion-resistant overlay welding on cast iron and on non-alloyed and low-alloy steels. It deposits a copper, aluminum, and manganese alloy free of zinc, characterized by high hardness and tensile strength. It can be used for mounting copper on aluminum, for overlays on steels and cast iron, as well as for cavitation-resistant overlays. The manganese-nickel-aluminum bronze is also suitable for welding joints resistant to seawater, particularly to withstand erosion, corrosion, and cavitation, and for overlays on copper alloys, carbon-manganese steels, and cast iron.

Description

Application

The CuMnAl alloy is mainly used for joining and surfacing on complex aluminum bronzes, particularly on materials with a high manganese content, as well as on steel and cast steel. Thanks to its excellent resistance to seawater and corrosion, it is particularly suitable for the shipbuilding industry, finding applications in objects such as propellers, pumps, and fittings. In industrial chemistry, it is ideal for components such as valves, guides, and pumps, especially when exposed to chemical attacks combined with erosion. Its good friction coefficient makes it perfect for overlays on wavy surfaces, sliding surfaces, bearings, and matrices of all kinds. The weld deposit offers excellent mechanical properties, being robust and crack-resistant. It is characterized by excellent workability in chip removal, corrosion resistance, and non-magnetic properties. Before welding, it is essential to clean the area to achieve a bright metallic finish. For large welds, preheating to about 150°C is recommended, keeping the absorbed heat to a minimum and ensuring that the interpass temperature does not exceed 150°C.

Alloy Type

Highest grade of the Al-Bronze-types.

Microstructure

Consists of primary α-phase grains in a matrix composed mainly of γ-phase grains and an intergranular phase layer containing both α and γ-phase particles.

Materials

This alloy is also used to join or repair high-strength bronzes of similar chemical composition and for high-strength repairs of cast iron.
