Description

Nickel base strips 82 for cladding applications
It is a chromium-nickel filler metal for corrosion and heat resistant weld cladding. It has no directly matching base material but is similar to alloy 600. It finds application in the weld surfacing of components in refinery and in chemical and petrochemical industries.

Description

Application

These welding metals do not have a directly equivalent base material, however, their composition is similar to Inconel™ 600. The addition of Mn and Nn is designed to ensure high resistance to hot cracking and dilution tolerance, compatible with numerous combinations of ferrous and nickel-based alloys. These metals maintain stable properties over a wide range of operating temperatures, spanning from –269°C up to beyond 900°C. The main applications include heat-resistant nickel-based alloys, ideal for use in
furnace equipment up to about 900°C. This material is also suitable for dissimilar welding between most nickel-based alloys, including Monel 400 and stainless steels, low alloy or C-Mn steels without the need for preheating. Further applications include transition welds between creep-resistant ferritic steels and austenitic steels, such as 2CrMo and 316H, for long-term high-temperature service in petrochemical and power generation plants. Additionally, it is ideal for
low temperature applications, such as cryogenic tanks or pipelines operating at –100°C or below, made with steels containing 3% or 5% Ni. Stress relieving treatment can be performed if necessary. The requirements for preheating and post weld heat treatment (PWHT) depend on the base material being welded. For most nickel-based alloys, no preheating is required.

Alloy Type

Inconel™ 600 type consumables with manganese and niobium additions.

Microstructure

High nickel austenite with some carbides.

Materials
