248SV
Application
The weld metal deposit is predominantly martensitic in nature, a characteristic that provides an excellent combination of toughness and cavitation resistance, as well as mitigating stress corrosion cracking. Typical applications include the repair of casting defects and the manufacture and reconstruction of components for turbines and hydraulic pumps, as well as the maintenance and restoration of marine propellers.
It is essential to maintain the interpass temperature below 150 °C and a heat input not exceeding 1.5 kJ/mm to maximize the impact toughness of the weld metal, particularly in direct welding conditions. A post-weld heat treatment between 580 °C and 620 °C is recommended, which allows for the formation of tempered martensite that combines ductility with resistance to corrosion and cavitation.
