Description

Electrode with special coating and aluminum core with 5% Si
Electrode for welding pure aluminum and AlSi - AlMg - AlMgSi - AlCu alloys. It displays good weldability and no porosity. When welding, hold the electrode at a right angle to the workpiece, with a short arc. Wall thicknesses greater than 10 mm and larger workpieces will require preheating from 150°C to 250 °C. Widely used alloys thanks to their excellent aesthetic characteristics and smoothness. Applications include general purpose constructions and components for the automotive industry, not suitable for post weld anodizing.

Description

Application

AlSi alloys are widely used due to their excellent aesthetic characteristics and surface smoothness. They exhibit low sensitivity to crack formation during welding, especially when used with 6000 series base alloys. Due to the silicon content, these alloys have a lower melting point and increased fluidity compared to 5000 series filler alloys, offering an improved weld appearance. However, the weld metal is not suitable for decorative anodizing purposes. The main applications of these alloys are found in general construction and the automotive industry, thanks to their good mechanical properties and excellent corrosion resistance. Their low melting point ensures minimal distortion in the base metal. A higher silicon content improves fluidity while reducing the risk of hot cracking. This type of alloy is generally used for brazing aluminum sheets, extrusions, and castings, as well as in applications involving high and prolonged temperatures.

Alloy Type

Consumables for welding aluminum alloys alloyed with Mg and Si.

Microstructure

Face-centered cubic lattice.

Materials

The alloy is suitable for sustained elevated temperature applications (> 65 °C). The alloy is designed for welding heat treatable base alloys.
