316H

Description

Basic coated electrode for 316H alloy
The primary application for this filler metal is surfacing of CMn steel or low alloy steel to improve their corrosion resistance. The ER309Mo is used to achieve a single-layer overlay with a chemical composition similar to that of a 316 stainless steel. It's resistant to the chemical aggression caused from acids, atmospheric agents and marine environments. The addition of 2.0 percent to 3.0 % molybdenum increases its pitting corrosion resistance in halide-containing environments. It presents high tensile strength and it is creep resistant.

Description

Application

The consumables of the 316H subfamily are specifically designed for the welding of austenitic stainless steels of the 316/316H grades, ideal for operating at high temperatures ranging between 500 °C and 800 °C. These materials are particularly effective in long-term creep conditions. They can also be used for welding grades 321/321H and 347/347H, where high-temperature structural service is required. This is crucial in scenarios involving thick and highly restrained welds, as the choice of a more ductile filler metal compared to 347H reduces the risk of premature failures caused by intergranular crack susceptibility in the heat-affected zone (HAZ). The 316H subfamily is used in the welding of components such as steam pipes, superheater headers, furnace parts, and components of turbines dedicated to gas and steam engines. These applications are typical of the petrochemical industry, fossil fuel and nuclear power plants. No preheating is required, with a maximum interpass temperature of 250 °C, and no post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) is necessary.
