Description

Controlled ferrite Rutile-basic coated electrode for 304L base materials used in cryogenic applications
Its basic-rutile coating ensures an excellent combination of welding performance in all positions, except for vertical down, and a high resistance to cracking providing smooth arc transfer. Excellent weldability with a spatter free arc and self-releasing slag result in a very smooth bead appearance. These electrodes are used to weld 304L stainless steels (18/8) with good toughness down to -196°C. These product have a controlled ferrite (3÷8). Mainly applications include pipework and vessel for cryogenic service.

Description

Application

The 308LCF product is used for welding austenitic stainless steels 18\/8, with operational service temperatures down to -196 °C. The components, including controlled ferrite electrodes for SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) and flux-cored wires, are specifically designed for cryogenic applications. Major applications include the welding of pipelines and tanks intended for cryogenic service, as in the case of liquefied natural gas (LNG). Preheating is not necessary, and the maximum allowable interpass temperature is 250 °C, while a temperature of 300 °C may be acceptable for thicker section materials. No post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) is required. To achieve optimal impact properties, it is recommended to operate at the upper extremes of the allowable heat input ranges.

Alloy Type

Controlled ferrite 308L austenitic stainless steels for joining 304L base materials used in cryogenic applications.

Microstructure

Austenite with a controlled level of ferrite, 2-5FN (3-8FN for solid wires).
