Description

Nickel-copper-based wire rod for welding and repairing cast irons that are difficult to weld
Special Fe-Ni-Cu wire rod for joining cast iron to steel and repairs on difficult to weld cast-iron. It deposits a monel type alloy composition of relatively high strength and ductility, with a low fusion point and excellent electrical conductivity. The deposit is machinable. Welding parameters need to ensure a low depth of fusion weld, since high dilution by the base metal may cause weld cracking.

Description

Application

The weld metal color exceptionally matches with cast iron, making it ideal for correcting casting defects on new components. It has a hardness of approximately 165 HBOK. The deposit can be made on both cold or slightly preheated materials. The weld metal offers excellent machinability characteristics. For castings with phosphorus contents higher than normal, around 0.20%, these materials are more effective compared to the ENi-CI classification. Practical experiences show that successful welds can be achieved on thick and highly constrained components, as well as on high-strength cast irons.

Alloy Type

Electrodi con rivestimento speciale basico-grafitico e anima in lega di nichel e rame.

Microstructure

La struttura dipende dalla composizione chimica e dalla velocità di solidificazione e successivo raffreddamento.

Materials

Welding & PWHT

Remove the fusion crust from the welding area by machining, grinding, chipping, or suitable methods. When repairing fusion defects, carefully remove defective metals from the base piece. Remove grease, oil, dirt, or foreign matter with suitable solvents. If the casting is oil or solvent-impregnated, apply heat until they evaporate; generally, 400 °C is sufficient. In cases of high grease presence, quickly heat the area to about 540 °C for elimination. The use of preheating is not always necessary but often preferable. Preheat to 200-350 °C, cool gradually post-welding, and maintain an interpass temperature between 350-450 °C to prevent cracking. In large castings, opting for intermittent welds can promote uniform temperature distribution, keeping the casting hot but not excessively so.
