GALVANIZED STEEL

Description

Copper coated carbon steel wire
It is suitable for welding thin, galvanized or electro-galvanized plates. Zinc forms a very compact and stable protective layer on the surface of the steel that protects it from rust and corrosive processes. During welding, the surface zinc melts, partly evaporating, partly diluting in the weld pool. To avoid zinc residues in the deposit deoxidizing elements Al and Ti are added. After welding it is recommended to restore the protective surface in the molten and adjacent area using cold galvanizing products.

Description

Application

Engineered for welding galvanized structural fabrications, featuring optimized micro-alloying elements to minimize zinc contamination in the weld pool. This enables direct welding onto galvanized surfaces, reducing spatter and showcasing superior welding characteristics compared to standard unalloyed wires. The consumables exhibit excellent resilience at low temperatures, and when used in conjunction with thread and synergic inverter generators, they deliver optimal results. Post-welding, it is imperative to restore the protective surface in the weld and heat-affected zone (HAZ) using cold galvanizing products. While preheat and post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) may not be universally required, the actual necessity depends on the grade and thickness of the base material being welded. Achieving the required mechanical properties in C-Mn galvanized steels is seamless with these welding consumables. However, given the intricate structural changes during the weld thermal cycle, careful assessment of properties such as HAZ toughness and hardness is advised. This comprehensive approach ensures efficient and high-quality welding for galvanized structural elements.

Alloy Type

Low alloy C-Mn steel, deoxidized with Ti, Al and Zr.

Microstructure

Predominantly ferrite.

Materials

Used to weld C-Mn and low alloy steels also with light surface contaminations and oxides, and for welding galvanized steels with tensile strengths of 580MPa.
