Description

Application

This consumable is specifically designed for the welding of aluminum and magnesium alloys, offering superior mechanical properties. It is highly resistant to corrosion, with excellent performance in marine environments, and ensures a perfect color match after anodizing. Aluminum 5356, known for its extraordinary corrosion resistance, is perfect for uses exposed to weather elements or chemical treatment. It can withstand temperatures up to 260 °C without losing its mechanical properties, making it ideal for aerospace and automotive applications. Additionally, aluminum 5754 shows excellent corrosion resistance, especially against seawater and polluted industrial atmospheres, surpassing the capabilities of 5251. Its robustness makes it particularly suitable for flooring, tread plates, shipbuilding, vehicle bodies, rivets, equipment for the fishing industry, and food processing, chemical, and nuclear structures.

Welding & PWHT

Welding surfaces often exhibit oxides and stains due to the presence of aluminum and magnesium oxide, resulting in a gray-black coloration. It is essential to eliminate these impurities before applying another weld pass, as they could generate fusion defects. The most effective method for removing such oxides is the use of a wire brush, which must be scrupulously clean and dedicated exclusively to aluminum. The gas metal arc welding (GMAW) process can generate a rapid rate of metal melting and solidification, promoting the entrapment of gaseous hydrogen, which needs to be controlled to ensure optimal results. For thicker materials, a preheat to 150 °C is recommended to facilitate the welding process.
