ALLOY X

Description

Solid wire for Hastelloy® X
The deposited weld metal, matching Alloy X, has an exceptional combination of oxidation resistance, fabricability and high-temperature strength and is very resistant to stress-corrosion cracking in petrochemical applications. X alloy exhibits good ductility after prolonged exposure at high temperatures up to 870°C. The filler metal is also a good candidate for dissimilar welding between solid solution nickel based alloys and Ni-Fe-Cr alloys. The sector of greatest application is the aeronautical one where it is used on exhaust pipes, blades and turbine afterburners.

Description

Application

ALLOY X consumables are designed for welding Hastelloy X base metal, as well as dissimilar welds involving nickel-based alloys, stainless steels, carbon and low-alloy steels. They are also ideal for coating steels with nickel-chromium-molybdenum welding metals using GTAW and GMAW processes. This filler material offers extraordinary mechanical strength combined with excellent oxidation resistance up to temperatures of 1200°C. ALLOY X boasts remarkable resilience against corrosion and thermal shock, with deposits maintaining high temperature and fatigue resistance up to 1200°C. Commonly used in the aerospace industry, it is employed in engine exhaust pipes, turbine blades, nozzle vanes, and afterburner components. Additionally, in petrochemical applications, it effectively prevents stress corrosion cracking.

Alloy Type

Welding & PWHT

For welding or heating nickel-based alloys, it is critical that the base metal is meticulously cleaned. Residues of oil, grease, paint, lubricants, graphite, temperature indicators, thread compounds, and similar materials, if present, may contain sulfur or lead, causing cracking or embrittlement in both the base metal and filler material. Preheating of nickel alloys is not necessary, except to bring them to room temperature or a typical shop operating temperature to avoid moisture condensation. A low heat input, maximum 1.5 kJ/mm, is recommended along with an interpass temperature not exceeding 150°C. Generally, solid-solution nickel alloys do not require post-weld heat treatment for use in corrosive environments.
